Vanessa Mae’s baby to open the DSF

This year Dubai Shopping will have a spectacular and highly distinctive opening ceremony featuring the talents of world renown violinist and singer Vanessa Mae.
 
When violinist Vanessa Mae dropped into the inaugural Dubai Shopping Festival, two years ago, she caused a sensation. Her concerts here, as elsewhere, were sell outs Still only 18she will be back again this year, but in a different avatar for this time she is the cynosure of a daring 45 minute opening show of music, fireworks, dance and special effects.
 
This concept show has been titled ‘Hymn to a child’ and is planned in four parts. These parts will contain a series of eight songs with narrated links, that begin with the ‘birth’ of the baby. As the child grows and become more and more independent we see its life first as a toddler, talking his first steps, and then as a child absorbing and marveling at and its many emotions as they unravel before him. The four parts are titled 1.The Birth 2. Discovery, Games, First Steps… 3. First Fear and First Heartbreak and 4. Future.
 
The pieces she will be performing are mainly taken from her recent album ‘Storm’ which has been creating enormous waves everywhere. An exception being ‘happy valley’ from ‘China Girl’ a composition that she performed at the reunification ceremony of Hong Kong with main land China last year, and ‘I’m a Doun’ from the Classic Album.
 
This Vanessa Mae extravaganza will be performed in the open at the Dubai Creek Golf and Marine Club at 8.00 p.m. on the evening 19th march. The auditorium will be too small for anything but an invited audience, but the show will be widely televised and spectators can watch from the Creek park on the opposite side of the Creek.
 
Born in Singapore but brought up in London, Vanessa Mae has been termed the musical phenomenon of 90’s. At 18 years old there is undoubtedly a lot more to come yet!
